Just Released!  My Latest Hank Cassidy Mystery!

Picture
The Way Down is Shorter...

Josh Sayles has been missing for two months.  The cops are stumped, and the teenager’s father, Reverend J.T. Sayles, wants Hank Palmer to find him.  With no missing persons experience Hank hesitates...but despite this--and despite an instant, intense dislike for the pompous, self-centered minister––the newly-minted PI accepts the job, mainly because he needs the work and the man has a ready checkbook.
But what Hank at first takes for easy money and a little on the job training will quickly become an excursion down some of Central Oregon’s most unpleasant back roads…ultimately leading, beneath threatening skies, to a place where the darkest, deadliest secrets will be laid bare…

Dean Drabin
Dean Drabin is a full-time resident of Bend, Oregon.  He moved there from Los Angeles in 2002, after a twenty-six year career in motion pictures (partial list of credits available at IMDb.com.)   He is an avid outdoorsman and motorcyclist; accomplished musician and chef (ribs, Jambalaya, southern-fried chicken, etc); loves Jazz, bridge, movies and, of course, great food (especially Cajun.)

Haven't met Hank yet?  Read my first mystery novel, Blue Lady.

Hank Cassidy has found a body, floating in the river near his house.  Like any good citizen, he immediately calls the police, and agrees to hang out until they arrive.  End of story?  No; not when they pull the murdered woman from the icy water, and he realizes that the pale blue face he is staring at belongs to someone he once had a fling with, in another city, another state...another life.  And considering that he's the only one within eight hundred miles of here who knows her, he now finds himself at the top of the suspect list...in fact, for the time being, he is the list---

Blue Lady Review: Thumbs Up!  (Had to print this one...)

Hi Dean:  I purchased Blue Lady from you when we were launching kayaks on the Deschutes and you were helping Wells Fargo on their river clean-up.  I saved it to read on my current trip to Maui, and just finished it.  In fact, I couldn’t put it down!

I only read from a very select group of authors:  Robert B. Parker, Lee Child, John Grisham, Sue Grafton, Brad Thor, Stuart Woods, Michael Connelly, David Baldacci, Joel Rosenberg, and one or two more.  I have now put you on top of my list and am looking forward to your next book. The plot of Blue Lady kept me turning pages, and as a resident of Bend, I could identify with all the landmarks.  I miss the Gen. Patch Bridge, but I guess it had to go, but you have restored its memory. When we next kayak the river, I will be saluting your home, or maybe even waving to you as we float by.

You are a gifted writer, and I congratulate you on your first terrific book. My wife (who is now reading Blue Lady) and I look forward to many more happy hours with your future books.  Thank you.

The Life

Picture
My Neighborhood
My home is located in Central Oregon.  Technically, the address is Bend, OR; but I actually live eighteen miles south of town, across the street from the Upper Deschutes River.  Looks nice, doesn't it?  The reality is even better...

 Saddle Time

Picture
My bike at East Lake, Central Oregon
Motorcycling is one of my favorite activities, particularly on miles of nearly-empty highways available within yards of my garage.  Winding through dense forest, my Ducati takes me past towering volcanic peaks and a dozen pristine lakes.  On these roads, my primary concern  is not other motorists, but, rather, wayward deer!
